What’s Keeping You?
In my day to day business I come across many wanna-be freelancers who in theory have the potential and the desire to start over in this industry. They dream of a life spent working from home, writing for clients but for some reasons they never even get started to give themselves a proper chance.
I believe the single biggest reason for these shortcomings is FEAR!
If FEAR is keeping you from becoming the product of your dreams then I can sympathize. I’ve experienced my fair share of FEAR and in every case it led me to procrastination. It’s like being held back by giant claws of terror stopping you from getting out of the little room with the scary walls. Procrastination stops too many people from getting what they want - or at least trying to and it is the evil mental illness of modern day society. Since I never lived back in the old days I can’t be sure whether it stopped people too. I have a feeling that it wasn’t such a big deal because these days we have far better opportunities than people in the older days ever had.
If procrastination and FEAR is keeping you from achieving even the smallest goals, stop right here and consider your options.
- Your first option is to keep on going as you have up until this day, including ALL your frustrations, failures and setbacks. Like this, you’ll NEVER get what you want because you are NOT doing your deeds to see results.
- Your second option is to take pro-active action and get busy with a step by step action plan. This is the ONLY way to move toward your goals, no matter how big or small they are. You will also experience setbacks but you will SEE results eventually if you keep on going.
It is too easy to give up because we lack:
- Time
- Energy
- Money
However, there are ways to work with your weak attributes by working with them instead of against them. Look at the hours of the day when are you feeling most tired or stressed. Try to buffer them with relaxing activities rather than pushing yourself to the limit, both physically and emotionally. Work with your body clock to take advantage of up-times and invest blocks of hours at a time to work toward your goals.
By starting out small you give yourself permission to achieve and your chances of long term success are much higher.
